Varía de bastante común a común en bosques templados nativos, matorrales adyacentes, arboledas y matorrales a lo largo de ríos y arroyos, especialmente con bambú. El canto fuerte se oye comúnmente, pero las aves vocalizando, pueden ser difícil de encontrar. En otras ocasiones puede ser confiado, camina a corta distancia como si tuviera curiosidad, usualmente con la cola levantada. El plumaje es distintivo, con la ceja, garganta y el pecho ferruginosos brillantes. 

It ranges from fairly common to common in native temperate forests, adjacent scrubland, groves, and thickets along rivers and streams, especially those with bamboo. Its loud song is commonly heard, but vocalizing birds can be difficult to spot. At other times, it may be uninhibited, walking a short distance as if curious, usually with its tail held high. The plumage is distinctive, with a glossy rusty eyebrow, throat, and breast.
